In high school I enjoyed art classes, but I went other directions—Science Education in
college and then ministry. I mostly did not do art for the next thirty-five years.
Three years ago I took my first oil painting class through the Left Bank Art League of
the Quad Cities. I’ve continued to paint Wednesday evenings at the instructor’s home
and have taken other classes in oils, watercolors, acrylics and pastels through the
LBAL and the Figge Museum of Art.
Just as my interest in Science is a way for me to be astounded by the Lord’s creation, Art is
a way to express my love of the beauty to be found all around us, to “study” the works of
God. Though painting for me is challenging at best and seemingly impossible much of the
time, it brings me peace, spiritual fulfillment, and camaraderie with my fellow artists.
I live in Eldridge and I am currently the pastor at Our Savior Presbyterian Church of LeClaire, IA
(in “Argo”).

I am originally from the Twin Cities where I took a Commercial Art course right after High
School. I then went on to college and got my teaching degree in Earth Science.
Immediately after college I went into campus ministry for nine years. I returned to the Twin
Cities to attend Bethel Seminary where I received my Master of Divinity and Master of
Theology degrees. I was ordained an American Baptist pastor in 1991 and switched to the
Presbyterian denomination in 2001.
